The employee benefits list that big corporations give to their employees

As an small or medium company you may not have access to all the benefits that Google, Facebook and all the big corporations are giving, but it is always good to know it, so it can give you some ideas on how to improve your current list of employee perks and the total salary package. Here you have the employee benefits list for some of the big corporations.

GOOGLE’s Employee benefits

Google is the king in employer branding for a reason. Their benefits are not just on the economic side, but also on the life balance side. They have many in-office perks and health insurances that are very competitive in the market.

  • Free lunch
  • Snacks
  • Health Insurance (medical & dental)
  • Retirement plan
  • Death benefit
  • Maternity leave
  • Sick leave
  • Gym
  • Sleep pods at the office (for nap time 🙂 )
  • 80% work 20% play time policy

Is not just the money you spend on this, but the way they feel. They are always been taken care of and in that way, there is no possible way to compete with that. For someone to take the decission of leaving Google, it has to have a very strong motive behind.

Amazon’s employee benefits

  • Amazon doesn’t pay food to their employees
  • They have good discounts as per what we have seen on glassdoor
  • Health insurance (Medical, Dental & Vision)
  • For some of their employees they will pay up to 95% of your tuition fee (up to a maximum). This is a great one specially if you want your employees to keep learning. If you decide to do this for some of your employees make sure you sign a letter saying that they will stay with you for at least.. X amount of time after they finish their course. If they decide to leave, make sure they sign a repayment of an X percent.

  • However, one of the greatest benefits of Amazon is the 80 days of unpaid time and 56 paid hours when you have an exam coming
  • Many of the employees at Amazon say that is not one of the greates benefits packages, but the pay compensates for it.

Facebook benefits

One of the things that people mention from Facebook is not just what they pay for, but the enviroment. Someone posted on Glassdoor

It looks like they also have:

  • Free food
  • Healthcare (Medical, Vision and Dental & on site medical care)
  • Retirement plan
  • Maternity and paternity leave
  • Transportation
  • Housing benefits
  • Worklife balance
  • Stock options
  • Gym services
  • Working from home

Disney

Working at Disney can be a dream for many people, not just as a career, but it is the example of a fantastic employer branding. It doesn’t matter what you do… if you say you work at Disney, many people will automatically smile 🙂

Apparently, this is not the only benefit they have. It seems that the Dreams factory also takes care of their employees, not just from the benefits and perks point of view, but from the affection side of things.

However, let’s see what are the actual list of perks that Disney provides:

  • Family and Friends park passes!!
  • Discounts in their hotels
  • Health insurance
  • Retirement plan

However, what it looks at Disney is that salaries are not that high and packages are not as strong as in other companies. However, they still have thousands of applicants every year.

This proves that even if you don’t have the best financial situation, you can always look for options within your capacity to attract and retain people. You may not be Disney, but you might be a gym who gives free access to your employees, or a restaurant who gives away the food that you are not going to serve or throw away.

Home depot

If you haven’t heard from them, they are a “one-stop shopping for the do-it-yourselfer”. We have included them here because they hire a different talent. They don’t look for the best developers and they are not in the cooler industry.

However, they aim to hire the best customer service people and they have to take care of them.

How do they do it?

  • Pay tuition fees
  • Discounts, which at their industry, could make your home works much cheaper.
  • Vision and Dental Insurance
  • Medical Coverage
  • Retirement plan
  • Life Insurance
  • Commisions and bonus
  • Flexible time (as much as possible as reported by some employees)

They are not perfect, and some of their employees complain, specially those living in USA, where holidays are not that usual and their holiday plan seem to be low. However, even thought they are not the bigger payer, people prefer to work with them rather than with an smaller competitor. It seems from the comments that is about the flexible working time and the tuition, in case it gives you ideas.

This are just few examples of what you could be doing. If you feel that you can not compete, note that there are multiple options for affordable employee benefits and perks that might not compete on the economical side, but could help inmensively with the employer branding side of things and employee retention.
